[First Person]
The mission was a simple one: get in, snag the photos, get out. Of course, nothing is ever that simple. Not for people who are in FOXHOUND, like me. No, I got a message halfway to getting out that I needed to take reconnaissance on the people behind this particular little mission. Of course, I couldn't say no. The Commander was the legendary Solid Snake himself, though don't tell him I said that. He was old now, older than he should be, but from what I've heard it's because of something that was planned when he was cloned.
I don't think I'm cut out for field work. The tense atmosphere, the constant nervousness making my hands shake. I can't even keep a firm hold on my gun when I'm sneaking by the guards. I'm told that this happens to all the rookies, but that's probably what they tell everyone, make the losers like me feel better. If it weren't for the temperature adjusting stealth suit that FOXHOUND issued me, I'd be slipping in my own sweat I think. And that definitely wouldn't be good. I sneak down the hallway, careful not to make any noise as I duck into a room as the guard starts to turn around. All I've got are tranquilizer rounds, I'll probably only get in one good shot before he alerts the whole area to an intruder. Better make it count. I take a deep, steadying breath, hold my finger over the trigger and jump out right behind him.
"Freeze! Or so help me..!" My breath is shaky but surprisingly, my hands are steady for once. The gun is pointed at his back, right behind his heart. I slowly step around him, watching his hands slowly go up. I look back for a moment, making sure it was just us. That the only moment he needs though. He grabs his gun, and yells into his walkie-talkie that there's an intruder. Quickly, I fired my M9 into his chest, watching him drop to the floor unconscious. There's no time to hide his body so the other don't find it so I dive into the room I had just vacated and hurriedly open up the grate on the vents, climbing inside. Several soldiers see me climbing in and start shooting. But in their haste, they don't bother to aim, only a couple shots hit me in the leg and I climb inside.
My leg hurts like hell, I can't get a hold of anyone on Codec. Must be some sort of interference. That should only happen near the commanders office, paranoia's result or something. Damn, I wish I could get a hold of someone. Crawling down another ventilation shaft, I find myself looking into an empty room. At the moment, I haven't much choice but to go inside if I want to check the extent of damage to my leg and suit. I get inside and situate myself behind the door, that way I can hear anyone coming and get my gun ready in time.
Looks like the damage is superficial. There's still some blood though. I take my equipment pack and pull out the bandages, wrapping some tightly around my calf. Today really sucks so far. At least I can still walk. I climb back into the vents and peek into the commanders office, waiting for him to show up with his 'guests'. I almost fall asleep while I'm waiting, but finally he shows up with two elderly gentleman. I grab my camera, flick off the flash and start snapping photos before taking my voice recorder to get down their conversation. They talk for over an hour but I do get some good stuff. Something about Liquid Ocelot's resurrection. It seemed his mind had been protected by the nanomachines in his body so that made it easy to recover his body and link his mind into some sort of new Metal Gear. I flick off the voice recorder and started crawling backwards until I can find somewhere to turn myself around. I quickly make my way back to where I first got in the vents. The guard is long gone, and hopefully, this hallway is clear while I make my escape.
Jeez I hate today. I guess I've mentioned that before. The stress isn't gone, but I can manage it better now. The hallways I first came through is empty, so is the storage room and the sewage tunnels. I grab my mask an fit it over my head, making sure there are no open spots to let any gases or water in. I shove my equipment bag into a waterproof bag and make my way through the sewage tunnel to the lake and dive in. My mask helps me to manage my breathing underwater while I make my way to the checkpoint to meet with the other members of FOXHOUND. None of them are there though, I'm alone when I get there. But the Snake comes out, coughing, but with a grin on his face.
"Sorry about that. Normally we'd do something a little easier for the test." Test?! That was a test?? My fist clenches but I keep it to my side. He seems to have noticed my sudden anger, he's looking right at my fist so I force myself to relax.
"I got shot at dammit! I'm bleeding still!" I snap but it doesn't seem to phase him. Does anything? A moment later his partner, Otacon, comes out behind him. He looks towards me with a sorry expression, as if he had told Snake that this was going to far. Otacon always was the sensible one.
"We understand the risks you took. And we appreciate them greatly. We wouldn't have sent you in there if we didn't believe you could handle it." He said as I handed him the camera and voice recorder.
((Umm.... I get really carried away with first-person stuff. It's easier to write because if I let my mind wander, I can actually experience some of the emotions I want to put into it. And I don't usually roleplay in first-person, in fact I very rarely do, so I'll post third-person view tomorrow. In the meantime, don't judge me until I get my next roleplay sample up, please? Both will be a general Metal Gear Solid scenario.))
