Wow most impressive! Writing fanfics and the like seems to have made your writing very good! Or maybe you always wrote like that in which case your writing is just awesome anyways.
So now that we know you can write let's see how well you know the rules of RP'ing. First a run through.
PP - Also known as Power Playing. This is when you control the actions of another player. It ranges from saying that someone responded when they didn't, to even making a hit land on an opponent when they didn't say so. PP is completely frowned upon on any site, and to do so will most certainly get you shouted at, at the very least. At the worst if you keep doing it then you will most likely get you kicked out of the RP.
GM - Also known as God Modding. This is where your template or actions are that of a God. For instance, controlling time is VERY GM. Also when you are in a fight and you suddenly cast some never heard of spell that summons the sword of ultimate power from the nether regions of the gamma quadrant, that is very GM as well. You always have to make sure that your template is within reasonable ranges and also that your actions follow the template you created.
Literacy - This is something that isn't exactly a rule but is often listed as one anyways because some people just don't type well. Now this doesn't mean type perfectly but literacy is usually a must. It needs to be easy to read and not full of L33T speak to be sure.
Length - A good number of RP's like to have at least one paragraph of posting. It doesn't have to all be spoken by the character but it does need to be written. Some like two paragraphs but I've mostly just seen one. This is mostly to stop those people who write one or two sentences that aren't even very good to begin with and then want to call it a post. Also a lot of people are very serious about RP's so they don't like seeing N00bs posting half-written posts.
Character Limit - Not always used but some RP's only let you have 2-3 characters. Some have no limit as long as you can manage to post as them. Sometimes even if the RP has a character limit, you can ask the runner of the RP and they might let you take on another character as well as the ones you have if you want to make a plot twist that they like or just if the RP is dying and needs help.
Machine Gun Posting - This is when you post over and over again. you have to let a few people post between your next post. So for instance, you and one other who are in a battle can't just keep posting back to back for three pages. This is frowned upon as it makes more work for others and is disrespectful. The only time this is condoned is when the RP is dying and you are trying to keep it alive with another member or two.
Killing a Character - So this isn't a rule but is needed to be known. you cannot kill anothers character without permission. this falls under GM but has other rules surrounding it. You can't kill another character without the permission of the owner of the character as well as the permission of the person running the RP. if the owner says no then you can't off the character. So even if the owner of the character says that you can kill the character you need both peoples OK before you can do so.
OOC - Also known as Out Of Character. This is what YOU are saying and not the character. All of those little things like "I posted", or "I couldn't post today because I had extra school". These things are said in the Sign-Ups thread or OOC thread. Oftentimes they are the same thread but sometimes they are separate.
Hmm I think that is all of it but there might be one or two things I forgot. I might have to add to the list but this should get you started.
